4/7/2026 — Dr. Kodey Hughes, Superintendent
In a rural community like ours, the lessons our students learn often reach far beyond the classroom or the competition floor. Recently, Juab High School had the opportunity to welcome Congressman Burgess Owens, who spent time speaking with our wrestling team not just about success, but about purpose. Congressman Owens encouraged our students to dream big, to take pride in their country, family, and community, and to live lives of service and humility. He spoke about the importance of discipline, noting that wrestling is one of the greatest ways to develop it. More importantly, he reminded students that the discipline they build now should not stay in high school; it should become part of who they are, guiding them throughout their lives.
This year, the 2026 Juab High School Wrestling Team achieved an incredible milestone: a 10th consecutive State Team Title, marking a true decade of championships, with top finishers in nearly every weight class. However, that was not the focus of this visit.
During his time with the team, Congressman Burgess Owens presented a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition to Coach Joel Holman and the team. This honor recognized not only their athletic accomplishments and academic success, but more importantly, their example, character, and service to the community. Nephi City Mayor Justin Seely also spoke to the team, emphasizing a value that defines Juab the balance between achievement, academics, and service. He expressed his pride in these young athletes and the example they set, reminding us all: “There is nothing more powerful than seeing young people work together to build a community.”
As Representative Owens spoke, one thing that stood out was that this was not about focusing on the team’s remarkable record of 10 consecutive state championships or the individual accolades of each wrestler. Instead, the recognition centered on something far more lasting: their character, their service, and their commitment to learning, academics, and growing as individuals.
That is a powerful lesson for all of us. In Juab School District, whether in our classrooms, our athletic programs, or throughout our community, we are working together to raise young people who lead with integrity, serve others, and make a positive difference in the world. Those are the qualities that endure, and those are the qualities that truly define success.
To our educators, coaches, staff, parents, and community members, thank you. Thank you for your support and example, which are shaping a generation that not only achieves but also gives back. #JuabProud
