CTE

As the school year nears its end, we are able to celebrate our CTE showcase. This showcase has been going on for 29 years now, and it highlights our culinary classes, our art classes, photography, woods, welding, and several other programs. You are able to see student creations and what they have been working on in class.

There are several important aspects that happen during this show. When asking Mr. Fletcher, our woods teacher, he said, “Tell me a student that doesn’t like to be recognized for the hard work they do… the whole purpose of it is to recognize students and what they can do… it also helps with recruitment, too.” He goes on to explain that when younger siblings and family members come to see the showcase, it helps them to want to try and do similar activities.

Preparing for the showcase isn’t an easy task, though. Mr. Fletcher also explained that he tells his students a month in advance about the showcase so they can put their best foot forward and be prepared. Mrs. Henry, our art teacher, explains, “I have to find judges for the show, collect all the art possible, frame it or mat it, label everything, hang up the art, and make sure that everything flows right and everything gets the attention it deserves.” She is one of several people who help this show work.

As for how the showcase itself came to pass, Mr. Fletcher explained that as a first-year teacher, he wanted the students to get the attention they deserved for their hard work. He went on to explain that most years, he tries to schedule it the same day as choir so that everyone can be recognized and parents have an opportunity to see everything in one trip.

This will be the 29th annual CTE showcase. It will be held May 11th from 5–7 PM in the vocational building. There will be woods, metal shop, art, and many other projects to see, as well as food! Please attend and support our CTE programs.
